Birds of Paradise  24x18 mixed media  $375

"I am an artist without a cause - or an artist that causes and creates huge messes as I paint, collage, mark, distress, sand and glue paper on wood substrates. For many years, I’ve collected bins of paper with interesting words, images, patterns and color. Many of these “paper treasures” come from old books, magazines, and more to include pictures of animals, birds, flowers, words and alphabets. I find great pieces of paper in many interesting places including garbage cans, telephone poles, sides of buildings and even the street.

Garden Hideout  24x24 mixed media  $625

Graffiti Wipeout represents images that I see in Jack London Square, where I have my studio. Seeing many doors, windows, trash bins, and railroad cars marked up with graffiti influenced this piece. I like addition and subtraction of paper and paint, producing many layers of interesting mixed media.

Graffiti Wipeout   30x30 mixed media   $825

My family and I have lived in Lafayette for the last 38 years and I've been working for approximately 15 years on paper and wood. I’ve done encaustics, assemblage, printmaking, book arts and many other artistic adventures. I was part of the Lafayette Art Gallery for fifteen years and I'm currently a contributor to Valley Art Gallery in Walnut Creek and also the Moraga Art Gallery.

Being an artist always gives me something to think about and create. I’ve never been bored for lack of things to do. I tell my children that in my senior years, just give me a pair of scissors, glue and paper and I will be happy. I feel lucky to have all my family nearby and to have the opportunity and freedom to make art."

Crane VIII    24x30 Monoprint   $395
"Most of my work has an Asian influence and I attribute it to my mother's appreciation of Chinese art. She had a large collection of Asian pottery and I always remember the cranes, either in flight or in their posed stances. I think the curve of their neck is design perfection. I love the subjects of nature and the quiet tones of ancient Asian art. Of course, I deviate from this and lately have been using broad, bright colors."

Sundown    24x30 Monoprint   $395

"I have been drawing and painting since I was a child. I used to watch my mother design dresses and she always set me up to draw beside her. I'm also a printmaker and do etchings and monoprints. As a working artist, I show at the Moraga Gallery and Valley Art Gallery in Walnut Creek. I usually work in concert with several other artists at a studio, presently in Martinez. I was a founding member of the Lafayette Art Gallery (now defunct) and enjoyed many years there. Originally from Philadelphia, I've lived in Lafayette since the nineties."

Pat Prosek is a member of the California Society of Printmakers, LaMorinda Art Association, and the Foundation of Arts & Sciences in New Jersey.

Artist Spotlight: Carla W. Gelbaum

Wish You Were Here #1   30x40 Acrylic    $3000
"This painting showcases a joyful relationship between the past and present, manifesting a new reality that dares to be both nostalgic and full of enthusiasm for the future. It includes images of impossible encounters and of a setting that blends my dreams and memories. With the implication that a photo is being taken, this painting is a reflection both of my life and my wish that my loved ones, from the past and the present were here with me now."

First Bloom   18x24 Acrylic   $450

Third Bloom   18x24 Acrylic   $450

"The flowers in these paintings are a humanistic and optimistic response to the cold and cynical world we face today. They fill each canvas, bursting forth with the power of life and hope.

I have been painting with acrylics for about 15 years - however, I have always been a working artist. It is part and parcel of who I am!

I received a B.F.A in Design and a M.F.A. with distinction in Printmaking, at the California College of the Arts. Besides acrylics, I have used watercolor paints and made monotype prints.

Carla W. Gelbaum has lived in Moraga for the past 22 years. She is a member of the Lamorinda Arts Alliance and the Lamorinda Arts Council.

To the Barn  24x30 Oil   $1100

"I have a connection to farms and barns and white houses, as my grandparents had a farm in upstate New York that my family went to as a child. This is about that experience - and also always about light and color."

Summer House   24x18 Oil    $700

"I have been painting most of my life or making art in one form or another; I taught for many years also. I have a BFA in painting, but I like printmaking too, and I have a press at my studio. I do not make my living as an artist, but it is an integral part of who I am and what I do. Originally from the East Coast, I have been in California for about 45 years and currently live in Walnut Creek."

Water Tower   18x22 Oil    $650

Through the Cracks  32x24 assemblage on canvas  $675
"I love to explore the things we keep, save and what they mean to us. Through the Cracks is one in a series of these explorations. My first love is sculpture, most often using clay. I also paint with acrylics, usually with texture involved, and I also use found objects to create a variety of mixed media pieces.

Liberty  bronze sculpture   $2500

Liberty and Justice was originally created in clay after 9/11, when I felt that the Statue of Liberty needed to sit down and drop her torch.

In 2018, I felt the need to make a mold of this piece and cast her in bronze.

When the newspapers became filled with suggestions that we need to build walls around our country, I felt this image would represent what so many of us felt.

Somewhere Out There   48x36 acrylic  $650

Somewhere Out There is a painting with texture that gives the feel of opening up and letting go, but also has a feel for the sky and vastness."

Judy Miller has lived in the East Bay for 47 years. As a working artist, she has exhibited and sold her work for the last 30 years. She's also a retired Occupational Therapist, using art activities as part of her job.

Judy is a member of the Association of Clay and Glass, Lamorinda Arts Alliance, Moraga Art Gallery, National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, and ACCI Gallery in Berkeley.

River Light - 24x36 oil   $1800

"I‘m fascinated by all that I see in the natural world. My passion for portraying that beauty is the force behind my paintings. The fleeting drama of weather and atmosphere creates an unending joyful challenge.

I paint to celebrate the qualities of shifting light, long vistas of space that evoke possibility and freedom, and the brilliant tranquility of light on water. I love the cool clarity and luminosity of northern California and it’s mysterious transformative fog.

I enjoy studying and painting the layered complexities of visual phenomena, like rocks submerged in water, seen through a surface reflection of the sky, and abstracted by ripples or wind.

It’s also exciting to explore and paint the personalities of different geographical areas, and capture remnants of California’s history and culture, its coastal villages, small family farms and ranches."

Yuba River - 24x36 oil   $1800

"Both of these paintings are portraits of beautiful rivers - the Mokelumne and the Yuba. I love rivers; the movement and colors, and the free feeling of the water interacting with rocks, and the contours of the land. It has a dancing joyful feeling, always changing, mesmerizing. I love watching light sparkle on the surface and illuminate the depths. The Yuba has an extraordinary green color lit with gold. The reflection of the sunlit rocks, sky and trees make a kaleidoscope of patterns on the ripples.

I’ve been painting and drawing all of my life, but have been able to devote myself completely to it for the last 20 years. Art is a profession but also a calling for me- something that makes me feel alive in a way that is different from everything else.

More of my work can be seen on my website, as well as at Valley Art Gallery in Walnut Creek and ACCI Gallery in Berkeley. I also have solo shows in other venues - this August through November, I will have a solo exhibit at the Walnut Creek City Hall Gallery Space."

Untitled - 24x18" woodblock print  $400

"From the first time that I carved a linoleum block at the age of 12, I have been a printmaker. Printmaking has been the medium in which I found my artistic voice. That voice was further amplified when I began familiarizing myself with the strong printmaking traditions of the country of my heritage, Lithuania.

My imagery comes from within. Unplanned, unexpected, evolving from one line, to a series of marks, to a shape, each step a constant surprise to me. Each plate or block causes a reaction that fuels the need to create the next. Whether etching copper, carving a wood block, assembling a collaged plate or incorporating digital media, I am fascinated by the technical and the physical aspects of creating an image.

And that moment of lifting the paper off of the plate after running it through the press and seeing the resulting image still causes amazement. When the print is being viewed I smile at the thought that no one knows the secrets of creation that hide beneath the surface."

Festival - 18x24" woodblock print $400

"I have a BFA in printmaking and have been living in Lafayette for the last three years. I work every day in my fully-equipped studio and teach occasional workshops. I also make handmade paper and create artists’ books... art is my calling."

Beyond the Fence - 24x30" woodblock print  $300
